Special Education Programs

The LAUSD SLD (Specific Learning Disability) Program is a Special Day Program (SDP) offering core subject instruction in small, supportive classrooms with credentialed special education teachers for students with documented learning disabilities, allowing participation in the general education curriculum while receiving focused support, often with a blended model where students also attend general education electives or certain classes, ensuring IEP goals are met.

Key Aspects of the SLD Program:

  • Small Class Setting: Provides instruction in a smaller environment for core academic subjects.
  • Credentialed Teachers: Taught by special education teachers who are specialists in supporting students with learning disabilities.
  • General Curriculum Focus: Students are on the general education curriculum but receive specialized support within the program.
  • Blended Learning: Students often attend general education classes for electives, PE, or other subjects not offered in the SDP, facilitating inclusion.
  • IEP-Driven: Services, including related services like speech/OT, are individualized and based on the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
